When I grew up, I had a very unique party trick that I would often break out at Sleepovers: I was able to point out every single article in a film or in a TV show by Ikea. Sheets, pillows, curtains, mirrors, tables, bookshelves – everything that came from the Swedish furniture spirit was immediately recognizable for me.
The reason for this was actually very simple: my mother worked on Ikea. For 20 years I spent time to visit your shop to eat as many Lingonberry delicacies and hot dogs as possible and to walk my hands over every single sofa. I would see a large, heart-shaped pillow in the shop for a week and recognize a week in a Disney Channel original film in the next.
Even now when I entered an Ikea and is hit with this unmistakable fragrance by Balsa wood and cinnamon rolls, I am transported to my childhood. Most of my table and kitchen utensils still come from Ikea, including the steak knives that I have had for 10 years.

Why I love my Ikea Snitta steak knife
This Snitta knife are really the child prodigy of my kitchen. You will be sold in a pack of four (although I was able to get my in a set of six 10 years ago) and have jagged edges with thick plastic handles.
I used it for a decade for any kind of food that may require a steak knife above a butter knife. Together with meat or fish, you can easily cut baked goods such as bread and dinner and vegetables such as asparagus and broccoli.
The absolutely best feature is that you don’t have to wash them hand! Since the handles are plastic and not wood, they are completely fine to throw the dishwasher. I think after a decade in which you own you, this is the quality that I guess the most about you.
When I spend the steak knives for dinner, I probably made a little fancier and I don’t feel like spending a lot of time after eating. I have probably used them once or twice a week on average and I am still led by how sharp they remain over a decade even after so much use.
When I bought it 10 years ago, I was moving to a new apartment in a new city. I remember how concerned the move made me because I didn’t know anyone in my new home. It was also nerve -wracking to rebuild the intellectual and financial load of building a kitchen from scratch.
Now I have been happy in my first house in a community full of friends. I like to consider these knives as a memory that sometimes you have to make a leap in faith to grow. Sometimes I wonder if these knives will still be with me in another 10 years – I like to think that they will be.
