Why do that?
• Chili crisp tomato salad combines ripe tomatoes, your favorite chili crispiness, rice vinegar and a little salt for a juicy, hearty side dish that is perfect with every cook.
• Simply salt the tomatoes, combine chili crisp and vinegar, drizzle them over the tomatoes and serve.
When summer rolls around, my appetite for cooking is after the temperature rises. We live in a 90-year-old house without air conditioning, and that means that I want quick, simple meals that do not need an oven or a stove.
Fortunately, Summertime Produce is the best in my opinion: lively, candy -like berries, great corn and juicy tomatoes that are full of taste. Last summer I was pregnant, chronically overheated, tired and longed for something salty, hearty and juicy – a unique combination for which tomatoes are uniquely perfect.
I serve this five-minute salad as the side of my back yard grill, regardless of whether I serve grilled fish, hot dogs or burger. Feel free to throw it with a handful of freshly chopped coriander or a scattered sesame seeds.
Selection of the right tomatoes
I love using a variety of colorful tomatoes so that you can optimally use the Summertime Bounty. From red to yellow, orange, green and even purple, they look stunning against every serving dish. Since you are the main ingredient, use the best quality tomatoes you can find.
If tomatoes are not in the season or if they do not find aromatic finds, use cherry or grapes (halved), which are often more concentrated in taste all year round.
The ointment of tomatoes helps to remove moisture, improve the taste of the fruits and bring out the Umami taste. I like to allow my tomatoes for about five minutes, but help every time.

A note about Chili Crisp
There are a variety of chilli -crispy options, and I usually have a few at hand. I love the Flybyjing Sichuan Chili Crisp with his hearty fermented black bean and the tingling of Sichuan Chilis. Bowlcut Chili Crisp is a small brand, which I like with a slightly sweeter taste profile.
If everything else fails, Trader Joe’s crispy chili onion is a big start into the world of Chili Crisp.
How I make my chilli crispy tomato salad
For about four portions you need:
- 1 1/2 pound of ripe tomatoes
- 1/2 teaspoon of kosher salt
- 4 teaspoons of chili crisp
- 1 tablespoon of rice vinegar
Cut the tomatoes into 1/2-inch wedges and put them in a bowl. Sprinkle the tomatoes with salt and let them sit.
As the tomatoes rest, combine the chili crisp and the rice vinegar in a small bowl. Drizzle and serve over the tomatoes.
