Although Kate Hudson is primarily a movie star, she has made a name for herself in the health and wellness space for decades, from pioneering Fabletics to her most recent stint as co-founder of nutritional powder brand INBLOOM. The herbal products are Available now at Whole Foodsand to celebrate, we chatted with Hudson in an exclusive email question and answer session.
Above all, we wanted to find out more about the actress and entrepreneur’s everyday life and how she can start her busy day well. When asked about her ideal morning, Hudson surprised us with a warm lemon water drink that she drinks every day, as well as her incredibly grounding daily rituals.
“When I’m home, my morning routine is simple,” Hudson says FoodGood. “I wake up around 6 a.m. and do some kind of meditation exercise while drinking warm water with lemon. I also try not to look at my phone during this time.”
Meditation is a mindful and free way to reduce stress and improve your concentration. Because it is a stress-reducing practice, it can also lower your blood pressure.
We love Hudson’s drink selection, a combination of two ingredients you probably already have on hand. Warm lemon water is a hydrating choice to start your day, and water paired with lemon’s vitamin C content is great for the health of your skin and immune system. Drinking warm beverages, including coffee, tea, or simply warm water, can contribute to healthy digestion, and Hudson’s Warm Lemon Water is another gut-friendly example.
“Then, about an hour after I wake up, I drink coffee or tea, go outside barefoot and look at the sun, which is one of my new favorite things to do before my kids wake up,” she explains. Hudson goes on to explain why she loves going outside after dawn and turning to the sun for her health.
“Sun watching is a great new thing to do in the morning: it has a positive effect on your circadian rhythm and prepares your body for the day,” she says. Research into the positive effects of sunlight on sleep found that exposure to more sunlight during the day can improve sleep duration. Additionally, spending more time in the sun can help you fall asleep faster in the evening.
Her favorite breakfast is of course a protein shake with INBLOOM protein powder. In addition to her own powders and blends, Hudson keeps healthy snacks in her kitchen for her family to eat throughout the day, including fresh fruits and vegetables.
“In my fridge, I cut carrots, cucumbers, jícama and peppers into mason jars with a little water at the bottom and cut fruits like mango, pineapple and berries, and when the kids want a snack I tell them to open the fridge,” she says. “We also love Siete’s grain-free churro strips, Barbara’s Original Cheese Puffs and Parmesan chips.”
As for her nighttime routine, Hudson keeps it simple: “It varies, but I like to go to bed really early and try to read before I go to sleep. Sometimes it’s difficult because I’m obsessed with home furniture and checking out live auction sites – not to buy anything, but to browse and see what’s out there.” We can completely understand that!
With their products launching at Whole Foods Market, we asked Hudson what’s next for INBLOOM.
“It’s the start of the brand’s expansion, and I can’t wait to reach more people as we’ll be in Whole Foods Market and be more accessible to our consumers,” says Hudson, emphasizing that it “feels really good” to be able to take a step closer to the brand’s mission of “making wellness more accessible.”
“In the future, everything we will formulate will be based on the same standard as everything we have done before, always at the highest level,” she continues. “I want to be innovative and start looking at the things that people don’t really know about that would have a positive impact on their routines. I also want to be specific; I don’t want to develop a ton of products just to create more products. I want to be very intentional about developing our portfolio.”
