Jimmy Buffett’s Simple Trick for the Best Margarita

Why do that?

• Quality tequila and fresh lime juice are essential for a balanced, refreshing margarita.
• The trick of adding water and serving the margarita without ice improves the taste without fitting the drink.
• The recipe can easily adapt so that you can set the sweetness and citrus level.

I had a high school friend, whose parents were self-proclaimed “Parrotheads”. Her basement was decorated in palm tree decoration and the walls were covered with pictures of Jimmy Buffett concerts and album cover. You even had a Tiki hat bar with a Margarita machine!

He often had parties, Jimmy Buffett music played at full volume, and his parents made us non-alcoholic Margaritas. These are some of my best high school memories.

A Margarita is only as good as the ingredients

While I enjoyed all these high school mocktails in my friend’s basement, I only experienced a trip to Florida in her mid-20s when I finally experienced a real margarita. Instead of the unrest sweet version, it was made with good tequila and fresh limes. I remember that I thought “The Must be what Buffett sang about! “It was easy, refreshing and the perfect drink for a warm evening in Florida on the beach.

A simple, well -made Margarita makes this perfect balance between sweet and sour, which is both satisfactory and refreshing. It is so good that Jimmy Buffett (type of) wrote a song about it – Margaritaville is less about Margaritas and more about the life of her best beach life, but Buffett loved a good margarita. His official Margaritaville Margarita is easy to make and even easier to enjoy.

What you need to do Jimmy Buffetts Margarita

  • 1 cup of ice cubes
  • 1/4 cup (2 ounces) Blanco Tequila
  • 3 tablespoons (1 1/2 ounces) fresh lime juice
  • 3 tablespoons (1 1/2 ounces) water
  • 2 tablespoons (1 ounce) triple sec
  • 1 tablespoon of superfine sugar
  • Kosher salt

Simply add all the ingredients – around the salt – to a cocktail shaker, cover them and then shake it to combine it. Rimate a chilled glass with salt and pour in the chilled Margarita.

You can easily double or triple the ingredients to produce more margaritas. Or if you are planning a party that makes Jimmy Buffett proud, make the thirst of a large amount by adapting the ingredients accordingly and serving from the largest pitcher you own. Offer a variety of trim salts and sugar and enable your guests to lift their own glasses before filling them with the best Margarita. Then turn on the buffet music, lean back, relax and enjoy it.

Why Jimmy Buffett’s Margarita recipe works

This margarita differs somewhat from most recipes. Water is added to the ingredients in the Shaker and the Margarita is served “without ice”. Margaritas are usually shaken – without water added to the Shaker – and served over ice. The Margarita not only shakes off, but also dilutes it a little.

The slightly diluted cocktail in the Shaker compared to ice over ice increases the flavors of the ingredients and at the same time prevent the drink is too strong or too sweet. If you serve it in a chilled glass, it stays cool and negates the need for additional ice cream when serving.

The catch is that you have to drink this cocktail quickly, otherwise it warms up, but the taste is never affected by too much melting ice.

Opportunities to enjoy Jimmy Buffetts Margaritaville Margarita

The original recipe is delicious, but the adjustment is always an option. I often exchanged three times seconds against orange juice. Since I don’t like excessively sweet cocktails, I use two teaspoons of sugar instead of a tablespoon. Here are some other ideas that you should try.

  • Sharp: Add some cut Jalapeño when you shake the Margarita. Run the glass with a mixture of salt and cayenne (or use Tajín) and garnish it with additional Jalapeño slices.
  • Lemon lime: Use the same parts of fresh lemon and lime juice for a little additional citrus punch and add some bowl of each bowl. When serving, throw in thin slices for lemons and limes for garnish.
  • Tropical: Add a splash of coconut milk. Regular and reduced versions both work, but the complete version offers a creamier experience. Start with a tablespoon and increase as desired.
  • Frozen: Make as directed, but skip the water and pour the drink over shaved ice cream. If you have no shaved ice cream, use your kitchen machine or mixer to crush it.
