I love a classic sandwich and a classic cheese sandwich and make a miller pesto grilled cheese, so American cheese is part of my regular grocery list. With this type of name I will bet that it is part of the most Rotation of the Americans.
While I have my favorite (Trader Joe’s American Singles), I am open to the instructions which slices should throw in my basket. I asked three food experts in their opinion about the best -cut American cheese in the grocery store.

The best American cheese in the opinion of experts
Although many brands were discussed, one stood out among the others: Sargentos American discs.
“I like it best because it is 100% real and natural (…) compared to other American cheese versions,” said Adams. “It also has a great, rich taste with just enough cones for the balance. It melts creamy and smoothly without this strange, plastic texture that have some American cheese.”
When shopping for discs, Adams is not the only food expert who prefers less additives and recommends reading the label. Without additional preservatives, the product keeps more of its natural taste and texture.
Experts also want to see good enamelability. The thinner the disc, the more likely it is that it melt and deliver a show cheese pull. “When I buy American cheese, I’m looking for a thin disc and a thin single, ”said Baruch.

“I’m looking for a high -quality cheese that melts well and has a great taste,” Adams agreed.

The best way to use American cheese
While I like Americans on a simple grilled cheese, the experts had a different recommendation. “My preferred way of eating American cheese is a Smashburger – or any A kind of burger, ”said Baruch.
Adams agreed that Smashburgers with American cheese are a must: “I love the American cheese for its perfect melt and creamy texture. It is my right to my Smashburger because it adds this classic, sticky quality that every big burger needs,” he said.
Baruch also likes to use melting American cheese on her breakfast sandwiches, which she builds on soft brioche. Genius!
