Simple recipe for homemade lemonade
Making lemonade seems to be easy until they try to inspire them and a little too acidic or hardly too lemon. Trust me, I made every zu-pucker and sweet mistake in the book. Nowadays I stick to this simple ratio with fresh lemon juice, homemade simple syrup (made from water and sugar), cold water and some salt. This recipe is easy to scale up or down, and I can’t imagine a better way to cool myself on a hot day. No more bottles or powder blends bought in the store for me!

How to gradually take homemade lemonade photos
Collect all of your ingredients.
Peel a lemon: First start a lemon with a vegetable peeler. Reserve the shells for your simple syrup.
Make the simple syrup: Follow my homemade simple syrup recipe (everything you need is 1 additional cup of water and 1 cup of sugar) to make your simple syrup. Add the lemon peels from your peeled lemon during the cooking process.
As soon as the sugar is dissolved, let your lemon syrup cool on the worktop. It can still be warm if you mix it with the other lemonade ingredients, but we don’t want it to be too hot.
Juice the lemons: Suck two lemons in rounds and put them aside. Then juice all remaining lemons to make 3 cups of juice.
Make the homemade lemonade: Add the cut lemons into a large punch bowl or carafe. Pour the warm simple syrup over the lemon slices.
Now pour in 3 cups of freshly pressed lemon juice …
… and end with 5 cups of cold water.
Then add a pinch of salt for the taste balance.
Stir to combine and serve over ice! Enjoy.
Trying variations!
- Add fruit puree for a fruity turn. Stir in 1 to 1 ½ cups of fresh or thawed fruit puree for an extra fruity taste. Strawberries, raspberries, peaches and watermelon all work beautiful, although I am part of strawberry lemonade myself! Add the puree in front of the water so that you can set the amount of water if necessary. You can also act directly in individual glasses if you don’t want to season the entire batch.
- Add fresh fruit. For a more subtle taste and a pretty presentation, throw a handful of fresh berries or cut fruits directly into the jug.
- Use a herb syrup. Give your simple syrup with fresh herbs such as mint, basil or rosemary while cooling down for a light herbal note. Or just throw a few branches directly into the jug before serving!
- Make it an Arnold Palmer. Mix this lemonade with iced tea for a super simple Arnold Palmer!
Storage instructions
You can keep your fresh homemade lemonade in the fridge for up to 5-7 days. However, I have found that it tastes best in the first three days in which the lemon taste is the highest brightness. Add ice cream just before serving to avoid you water down your delicious lemonade!
The simple syrup can exist up to four weeks in advance and (with the lemon peels) can be stored separately in the fridge.
