I arrived at home with two sword -like durets at home and announced to my friend Ervin that we have that we have Ina Garten’s cucumber -sandwiches for lunch. “Nice! I wanted to try one since I saw it on ‘dexter’,” he replied. (Pause.)
I couldn’t remember that cucumber sandwiches in the TV series about a serial killer, but apparently it was a favorite by Keith Carradines Special Agent Lundy … The go-to-lunch of a Star crime hill. And all the time I thought that cucumber -sandwiches were for English high tea, baby shines and Saturday afternoons playing canasta.

What makes Ina Gartens cucumber sandwiches something special
Inas Sandwich, who gives the full “Pool Party Chic”, goes beyond the familiar triangular, crust -free white bread version. It fills without feeling difficult; Book booked by nutritious, sown bread; And invited with crispy cucumber that falls from a gun, grass, velvety and spicy goat and cheese filling.
It is a great addition to every lunch buffet that serves as a figurative refreshing backyard sprinkler snack between the loaded pasta salad and bacon cheekyburger, fresh from the grill.
Even better, you can remove a page from the cookbook from Ina and still get the fresh herbal taste-the chopping without mixing cream cheese with herbal cheese bought in the store. Layer your cucumbers between two bread slices and lunch is served.
But, wait, wait, wait. The first season of “Dexter” appeared almost 10 years ago – and my friend has dreamed of this sandwich ever since. Think of this Internet survey about how some Guys think of the Roman Empire all the time? Now I wonder how many of us secretly think about cucumber sandwiches.
I am just an unofficial armchair slash-slash behavioral psychologist, but I know that there is only one way to solve this puzzle: by doing this sandwiches all summer. (Pinkies out! And no crust cut required.)

Tips for the production of cucumber -sandwiches Ina’s way
- Room temperature cheese makes the integration of the filling ingredients into child’s play. If the cheese is still cold from the fridge, let it rest on the counter until it no longer feels cool.
- Hot House cucumber (also known as English cucumber) has fewer seeds and are a little less watery than standard cutting cucumbers. I cut mine to a mandolin because I have no finesse with a knife. I didn’t notice much additional water in my cucumber, but you can always throw your slices in a little salt and let them drain in a colander for 20 minutes.
- For the simplified version of Ina’s recipe, I used Vermont Creamery’s Herbed Chevre, which no longer had to be milk to spread into a spread with the same amount of low-fat Philadelphia fresh cheese. (Add 1 to 2 tablespoons of milk for a softer texture and a little salt.) It tastes a little different than Ina’s recipe, but still brings this spicy herbal taste.
- Go rogue by jumping the herbs entirely and mixing goat cheese with all the Bagel spice or another combination of fun flair.
