I strive to be one of these people who can pull a funny dessert out of a mood. We always hold ice cream at hand, and when I serve it myself, I often want to build it up a bit. Unfortunately, I almost never have Sundae -Toppings at hand.
Enter this simple homemade Magic Shell recipe with two ingredients. With two pantry base foods – coupling shavings and coconut oil – you can have a fun, delicious and nostalgic ice that is questioned in less than five minutes.
What is Magic Shell?
Perhaps you remember the original Magic Shell from your popularity in the 80s and 90s. “Ice Magic” was treated as an ice cream in Australia, but was reproduced under the name Magic Shell from Smuckers in the USA. Magic Shell and his copies such as Joe’s Hard Top Chocolate Shell Trader are a liquid covering that can be poured over ice, where it quickly hardens and gives a crispy shell on.
While you can still find Magic Shell in important grocery stores, the production of pantry Staples feels economical and enables you to use the ingredients that you like best. In addition, it feels like a separate party trick to whip these US guests for dinner or with their children.

Ingredients for homemade Magic Shell
While this homemade ice cover is made from only two common ingredients, you will achieve the best results with a certain specificity:
- Refined coconut oil: This is the main component to set the Magic Shell. Coconut oil is one of the few fats that are liquid when it is warm but is in cold, cheeky condition. Not refined coconut oil works, but the refined coconut oil is more neutral and sets a little harder than not superfluous.
- Chocolate chips: Chips are best suited for both taste and texture to create a variety of magical shell aromas. The chips melt quickly and evenly and they are not only limited to Semisweet. Butterscotch, white chocolate and peanut butter chips all work for the production of Magic Shell with this recipe. Decide on the best chips that you can find – I love ghirardelli for chocolates and white chocolate types.

Tips for making a homemade magic shell
- I love to use a glass fluid to melt the chocolate chips for simple watering, but also works every microwave -related bowl.
- Make sure you stir your Magic Shell mix between the individual microwaves to prevent the sink and to melt everything evenly.
- You can use your magical cover immediately, but I like to cool it for a few minutes, so that every residual heat from the microwave does not make the ice extremely melt.
- If you store all the remnants in a microwave-safe container, you can catch up in the microwave and stir into 15-second burds, stir in between.
How I make my 2-instue homemade magic shell
To make 2 cups (approx. 16 portions), you need:
- 2 cups (12 ounces) half -sweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup of sophisticated coconut oil
- Ice cream for serving
Mix the chocolate pieces and coconut oil in a microwave -safe liquid with a cup or bowl. Melt in the microwave in 30-second intervals and stir a total of about 1 1/2 minutes each. Let cool for about 5 minutes.
Pour the magical bowl directly on cold ice. The topping is defined in about 30 seconds; It is ready for cracking when the shell looks too blunt from wet.
Remains can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 months. Heat smoothly again in the microwave in 15-second places.

Other ways to enjoy homemade Magic Shell
Obviously, this topping for ice cream is made, but in my house we also love to burden yoghurt cups, overnight oats and as a dip for fresh strawberries. You can also use it as a chocolate coating in ice skips or as drizzle or immersion for ice creams sandwiches or ice cream on the stem.
