I have recently researched the world of celebrity recipes from minimal netotians, from Julia Child’s Best Dinner Party Desserts to Drew Barrymores vegan salad dressing.
These recipes with low effort are particularly comfortable in summer, the most physically exhausting season of the year. The fewer purchases, measure and mix, the better.
So when I stumbled on it Ree Drummonds 3-ingredient ice box cake From a 2018 sequence of The pioneer womanI knew I had to try. The cake combines chocolate biscuits and whipped cream and is a lack of public for adults and children alike.
Why I have REE Drummonds 3-ingredient ice box cake love
Ree Drummonds Eisbox layers smooth whipped cream with crispy chocolate biscuits. The heavy cream and the powdered sugar only took a few minutes to whip in a cloud -like homemade whipped cream.
The layers of the cookies with the whipped cream was strangely satisfactory, especially on the evening of the cream. As soon as the cake was set, it was even more fun to cut and see the alternating black and white layers.
While the original recipe recommends a springform pan, I used an 8×8-inch square pan with parchment paper. REE demands chocolate wafers that can be difficult to find in the shops. Fortunately, Oreos worked just as well.
To do this work, I twisted the Oreos and put 16 cookie halves on the first layer of whipped cream with finddown cookies. After repeating this process, I left the cake with eight whole, crushed cookies. I used a total of 24 OREOS, eight per shift.

Tips for the production of REE Drummonds 3-ingredient ice box cake
- Crushed cookie topping: I used a plastic zipper bag and a roller pen to simplify cleaning.
- Set cake: I frozen the cake overnight instead of cooling it, based on comments from Food Network spectators, who said that he was otherwise too soft. This gave him a firmer, slim texture.
- Portion: I let the cake sit on the counter for 20 minutes at room temperature to easily lift off before serving. Then I cut it into squares with a cook knife.
- Variations: Replace fresh berries for one of the biscuit layers and put vanilla extract in the whipped cream. Use oreos biscoff, lemon or crispy chocolate chip cookies.
A comment on the original recipe said that this ice box cake “only tasted like a bunch of whipped cream and cookies”. They are not wrong about the taste – that is exactly what tastes. What do you like about a bunch of whipped cream and cookies?
