The Gimlet is a classic cocktail that deserves more attention! Made from gin, lime juice and sweetened with simple syrup, it comes from the acid family of the cocktails (my specialty). Save the detailed cocktails with unmistakable ingredients for ordering in chic bars a simple, citric, not too large cocktail at home is one of the simple joys of life.
The gimlet is light and light, like a more casual version of a martini that you can slowly drink on a veranda. I love a gimlet in spring or summer – they are fresh and just right. If you are happy to order a good gin cocktail or a margarita with real lime juice, you will love a homemade gimlet.

Gimlet ingredients
Gimlets are poured cocktails with three simple ingredients: Gin, fresh lime juice and simple syrup. When I was a bartender after the college, we served Gimlets, which were made of Roses sweetened lime juice, which tastes good and artificial. A combination of fresh lime and simple syrup is far superior.
Some bartenders insist that gimlets with homemade lime cordials have to be made, but I think a proper lime -Twist set is everything you need. We all agree that Gimlets have to be shaken and not touched. They are best served ice cold, which is why my instructions contain the cooling of the glass before use.
The best gin for gimlets
Plymouth Gin is the traditional choice for a gimlet, and it’s great. If you have ever bothered yourself from the level of juniper taste in London Dry Gin like Tanqueray, you will appreciate that Plymouth Gin in your spirits cabinet. It is less dry and more rounded.
I also love to use Hendricks gin in my Gimlets. The unique aromas of cucumber and rose petals mix well with the fresh lime, which is why I used Hendricks in these photos.
Do not hesitate to use London Dry Gin for good results in your Gimlet. If you have that at home. Beefater or Fords are good options.
Gimlet variations
Now we’re talking! Gimlets are well suited for new additions. You can already find some of you on my blog. Take a look at my basil gimlet, cucumber -field flowers -gimlet and cucumber mint.
Here are some options that you can try out. You can mix them freely with great results.
Fresh basil
Add 8 medium -sized basil leaves to your cocktail shaker.
Fresh mint
Add up to 10 fresh mint leaves to your shaker. This is called Southside Cocktail.
Cucumber
Add a 2-inch disc peeled cucumber, halved and then quartered. This is referred to as Eastside cocktail.
Older
Instead of the simple syrup ST-Germain elder flower for a delicate flower taste. This version is called “French Gimlet”. ST-Germain is less cute than simple syrup, so you have to use a little more than 1 ounce ST-Germain to keep the cutiness level in balance.
Honey simple syrup
For more complex flavors, use the same amount of honey -enforced syrup as regular simple syrup. Choose a bright honeyLike clover or orange blossom honey, for beautiful flower aromas.
This version reminds me of OoooF the knee of the bee, a similar cocktail made of gin, lemon instead of lime and honey simple syrup.

Gimlet Cocktail
The Gimlet cocktail is an adorable combination of gin, fresh lime juice and simple syrup, which is served with a turning of lime. Recipe results in 1 drink; You can mix up to 3 in a standard cocktail shaker at the same time.
- Relax your coupe glass by filling it up to the edge with ice and water. Set it aside as you prepare the cocktail.
- Next, fill a cocktail shaker with ice cream. Pour the gin, the lime juice and the simple syrup into it. Attach the lid securely and shake the mixture for about 20 seconds or until the outside of the shaker is absolutely ice cold.
- Dispose of the ice water in your glass and easily shake all stubborn water drops. Strain the mixture into her prepared glass. Carefully turn the lime shell over the drink to leave the oils free, and then pull it slightly over the edge of the glass before entering it. Enjoy.
Notes
*To make simple syrup: Combine the same parts of sugar (or honey) and water in a small pot or in a microwave -related bowl. Heat and occasionally whisk and occasionally whisk in the microwave over medium heat or in 30-second bumps until the sweetener has completely dissolved in the water. Set it aside before use to cool. The remaining simple syrup holds up to 1 month in the fridge in an airtight container.
GIN recommendations: Plymouth Gin is the most authentic choice and gives a great gimlet. I love Hendricks for his cucumber and flower notes. You can also use a London Dry Gin like Beefater or Fords.
Measurement tips: Two ounces are ¼ cup, 1 ounce 2 tablespoons and ½ ounce 1 tablespoon.
